It's official. The White House has another first dog. Senator Kennedy gifted a six month old Portuguese water dog named Bo to the first family. This family has never owned a dog. This breed can be one of the most challenging dogs to own. As a life long dog owner myself, I take issue with all of this. It is said that the Obama family did it's homework before settling on this breed. If that is true, then I can't help but think that they didn't give a flying fart about the facts. I'll just spill my guts here. Dog ownership is a privilege. One that is not to be taken lightly. It's my opinion that this is exactly what the Prez and fam has done. After all, they have already lined up a staffer to train and see to the dogs daily needs. So who's really the master of this pooch? With all the breeds in shelters across the nation, why this high dollar dog from Texas? Wouldn't it have been more inspiring to adopt a shelter dog and rally fellow Americans to do the same? Needless to say, I'm very disappointed with our presidents decision. It was short-sighted and irresponsible to say the least. I fear that the popularity of this breed will skyrocket. That will be a sad day for the PWD. They are already plagued with various health issues, then add unscrupulous breeding practices just to turn a fast buck into the mix. It's a recipe for disaster.

I wonder who is paying for the trainer? Tax payer dollars?
Also why did they wait to get into the White House? Those girls are how old and now they get one. We have had a pet since the kids were younger then that.
There are a lot of things that they are doing since they been in the W.H. M.O. is going to have a garden now. Why didn't she have one before that? Who will be taking care of it? The only time we are going to see her in there is for a picture or two.
Those are my thoughts exactly. To me it seems more about appearences than anything else. It's the presidently thing to do. It's not very original. They are just copying what past WH residents did. If you are not "dog people" then buck up and own up to it! This morning I saw B.O. (note the similarity to the dog's name?)on the news. A reporter asked him where Bo the dog was sleeping. A bed? And our dear Prez blurts out, "Not my bed!" I was also disappointed to see Bo dragging the entire family all over the WH lawn. The 1st family also did some back-pedalling this morning. They stated that the dog was a rescue, because the first owner returned him to the breeder. This just goes to show how VERY little they know about rescue animals. When you pay full price for an animal from a breeder, that is NOT a rescue animal! Thanks for your comment and feel free to visit anytime - P
